The Business of Auditioning: A Headshot and Resume Intensive

July 31st & August 1st, 2026

Flashback Theater’s Professional Training Ground returns with a weekend of theatre education to prepare you for all your upcoming auditions and performances! In our yearly Business of Auditioning masterclass, prepare your resume and headshot for the audition process with this masterclass led by Director Sommer Winstead. All participants will sit for a mini headshot session with photographer Mark Latham and will receive an edited digital image they can use in their upcoming auditions. You will learn what a director is really looking for on a resume, tips for the perfect headshot, and how your audition materials should showcase you at your next big audition.

July 31st: 6:00-8:00pm

• 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. What to Expect in Professional Auditions Sommer Winstead will give important insight into what the procedure of professional auditions entail. She will explain what the role of resumes and headshots play in this process, what materials are best to choose for an audition, and professional etiquette an actor should know. 

• 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. How to Prepare for Headshots Mark Latham will instruct the group about important considerations in how you should properly prepare for a professional headshot in anticipation of the mini headshot session Saturday morning. Each individual will receive personalized feedback on what they should wear for their best headshot. 

• 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Mock Auditions– Put yourself into a simulated audition room and get feedback from a professional director in real time. Learn how to present yourself going into and leaving the audition room by observing selected students in a mock audition with real time feedback from a stage director. This audition masterclass will prepare you for what to expect in an audition room and will allow select participants to get feedback on their audition behavior.

August 1st: 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. 

• 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Mini Headshot Session- Each participant will sit for a mini headshot session with photographer Mark Latham. They will receive 2-3 headshots after the class that they can use for upcoming auditions. 
• 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Resume Workshop- Bring a laptop or device and create your very own performance resume. Receive individual feedback from Sommer Winstead on how to tailor your resume to showcase your best self in an audition room.

• 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Lunch Forum with Sommer Winstead and Steve Cleberg During lunch, we will discuss the process of choosing audition materials. What monologues and/or song selections best showcase you? How to differentiate material based on shows? What should be in your “book”? How to find materials? Sommer Winstead and Steve Cleberg will guide you and answer any other questions about acting careers.
