The Let’s Play! Company at Flashback Theater will continue to provide arts education through their Second Saturday workshops in July. This month’s event is Improv Olympics, and will take place on July 13th at 7 p.m. Brian Herrmann, Second Saturday host, will guide participants through competitive theatrical games in the Black Box. The event is free to attend, but donations are accepted at the door. Audience members of all ages and experience levels are invited.

This month’s event will feature competitive improvisation games. Participants will be split up into teams at the beginning of the evening, and will choose their team names. Judges will adjudicate each of the teams’ performances and offer constructive feedback and determine winners when necessary. The judges will be guests from the community and audience members. Some games will include all team members, while others will require a selected few. These games are designed to be easily understandable to all experience levels.  People who have attended the workshops before will be familiar with these games; to those who are unfamiliar, there’s no fear. Herrmann and the rest of the Let’s Play! Company will help the actors understand the details of each game; this will guarantee a stress-free experience. Each competitive round will commence after a practice round, to make sure participants understand the rules before the official round.

Second Saturday workshops provide an exciting, educational atmosphere to the community. The workshops have a relaxed atmosphere, with very little stress placed on participants. A perfect performance isn’t the goal; the objective is to learn about theater and to communicate freely with members of the community. By communicating with other audience members and the Company, bonds are formed with fellow community members. Because of the relationships created, the arts can be introduced to people from all walks of life, and the community can come together and grow.

Improv games are quick and entertaining for both the audience and the participants.; they are unpredictable and unconstrained. Audience members and participants who have attended Flashback’s mainstage productions may recognize some of the Let’s Play! Company members. Our Second Saturday workshops are a great way to get to know the members on a personal level. Theater involves both professionalism and being involved with the community. The Company members are eager to invite new faces into our group. Everyone is welcome in the theater!

At Flashback Theater, we believe that theater is a place where everyone can come to enjoy themselves. We encourage performers and audience members alike to join us for Let’s Play! Second Saturdays all year long.
