Flashback Theater Co. (FbTC) seeks a part-time staff member to join the Professional Ensemble. The role of Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator will have a flexible schedule of 20 hours per week, and will report to the Producing Artistic Director.

Flashback Theater Co. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in Somerset, Kentucky that produces locally based theater productions throughout the year. A season of 5 productions is typical, with other projects and special events held occasionally. A focus on telling stories relevant to the community is evident in the work, and FbTC supports artists by paying stipends for their work on productions, helping to retain talent in our region and encouraging creative growth in our community.

The Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator will be primarily responsible for supporting the work of Flashback Theater by raising funds of $100,000 annually to pay for operating and production expenses. This will be accomplished through efforts to network and connect community members to the mission of Flashback Theater. A secondary responsibility of this position will be to organize volunteers that support the mission in hands-on ways (such as ushering, postering, and set/costume construction)

The candidate accepting this position will be a self-motivated individual who has prior experience working in a professional environment. The flexibility of this position will work well for someone who is supplementing other income sources and has a passion for making connections in the community. This job requires enthusiasm in meeting new people as well as an understanding of the community’s business and non-profit landscape.

Duties will be as follows:

  • Earn revenue through ad sales and sponsorships.
    • Establish new relationships with businesses that are prospective sponsors or advertisers.
    • Set and attend meetings for Season and Title Sponsors with the Producing Artistic Director.
  • Maintain existing relationships with current sponsors and advertisers, including following up on outstanding asks, and fulfilling sponsor benefit expectations.
    • Maintain complete and accurate sponsorship records in the database system.
    • Collaborate with team members to fulfill sponsor benefit expectations.
  • Oversee volunteer recruitment to build a roster of volunteers who can poster, usher, and build.
    • Collaborate with the Resident Stage Manager to set volunteer schedules for ushering and build days.
    • Work events as assigned, which may include outreach events, box office shifts, receptions, or special event programming.
  • Be a positive representative and advocate for Flashback Theater within the community.

Qualifications:

  • Background in sales and networking is a must. The ideal candidate will have experience in connecting with people, and will be comfortable asking for financial commitment in the form of sponsorships and ads.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Phone calls, emails, and face-to-face meetings are a significant part of this position. Attention to detail is essential to the candidate’s success.
  • Excellent time management. This is a task-oriented job that requires setting and meeting deadlines and keeping appointments.
  • Ability to collaborate with other team members. The staff works together to accomplish the overall goals and vision of Flashback Theater, and everyone must be a positive influence on that success.
  • Experience in theater production is encouraged. This position requires advocating in the community for our programming and an understanding of the production process is helpful when articulating our needs to sponsors, volunteers, and advertisers. *Professional Ensemble members are supported in their aspirations to participate in productions.
