Advanced Actor Combatant and Fight Director Emily Norris returns to instruct actors how to put stage combat techniques into scenes. Intro to Stage Combat: Unarmed (2025 or 2026) is a prerequisite for this class. In theater, stage combat is part of the story being told. Learn how to safely and effectively use stage combat to tell a story in context. 

Schedule Breakdown:

10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. 
Initial work putting combat into scenes. Participants will get matched with partners and receive fight choreography to use in the context of a scene. They will receive one-on-one training and feedback during this time to help them prepare their best work.

12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m.
Lunch Forum: Guest Artist Emily Norris will discuss continuing education in Stage Combat, how to get certified, what opportunities Stage Combat training opens for actors, and answer questions from participants.

1:00 p.m.- 1:30 p.m.
Participants will continue work on their combat in scenes and prepare to present to the group.

1:30 p.m.- 2:00 p.m.
Participants will present their scenes to the group, receive feedback on their work, and have a chance to solidify final takeaways from the day.

About the Artist

Emily Norris (she/her) is a fight director, teaching artist, and actress based out of Central Kentucky. She grew up in Lexington where her love for theatre started and eventually found stage combat during her time at the University of Kentucky where she holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Theatre. Emily continued her stage combat training in graduate school at Louisiana Tech University where she earned her Master’s of Arts in Theatre. She is an Advanced Actor Combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors, which she has been a member of for the last 9 years. Emily has had the privilege of getting to teach at stage combat workshops all over the country and is certified in the 8
