Featuring an outstanding cast of local actors and theater artists, the play has fascinating connections to Kentucky history. Flashback Theater Co. is the only theater in our region dedicated to compensating artists for their pursuits. Getting and Spending features performers and crew members hailing from Somerset, Russell Springs, Jabez, Science Hill, Monticello, Campbellsville, and Whitley City; Billy Christopher Maupin (Campbellsville, Monticello), Bailey Patterson (Jabez, Somerset), Laura Torres (Somerset), Seth Hart (Monticello), Zachary Vaught (Somerset), Joy Chaney (Whitley City), Brian Herrmann (Somerset), Sommer Schoch (Russell Springs), and Traci Bray (Science Hill, Somerset).

Artist Bios

Billy Christopher Maupin (he/him) (Richard O’Neill) returns to the stage in GETTING AND SPENDING. He will return to the directing chair with FbTC later this season with THE LAST FIVE YEARS, following last season’s incisive WHEN WE GET GOOD AGAIN, SWEENEY TODD, and ALL TOGETHER NOW! and having appeared in BROTHER WOLF, THE 39 STEPS, and THE MOUSETRAP. His productions of Dave Malloy’s PRELUDES and CARRIE the Musical were met with Richmond Theatre Critics Circle Awards for Best Director of a Musical, while his production of Lillian Hellman’s haunting THE CHILDREN’S HOUR earned him a Tabby Award for Best Director. His other favorite directing credits include DOG SEES GOD: CONFESSIONS OF A TEENAGE BLOCKHEAD and YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN (in rotating rep with the same cast; Firehouse Theatre Project); BECKY’S NEW CAR (Virginia Repertory Theatre); and A GENDER-REVERSED EXPLORATION OF MACBETH (Richmond Shakespeare). In 2020, he was featured in THE NEW YORK TIMES and THE WASHINGTON POST for his one-man adaptation of THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY which he co-adapted and starred in. Some of his other favorite acting credits include Reverend Oglethorpe in the SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN trilogy, the Fool in TWELFTH NIGHT, and Ronald in the world premiere of AUSTIN’S BRIDGE (co-starring Jeremy Jordan). Billy Christopher is an Associate Artist with Carpenter Science Theatre Company and is the co-founder and Associate Artistic Director Emeritus of 5th Wall Theatre.

Bailey Patterson (she/her) (Victoria Phillips) graduated from UK with her degree in Theatre. In Lexington, she played Shakespeare in Shakespeare in Love (UK DoTD) and Mary in Murder on the Orient Express (Studio Players). Home at Flashback, she’s played roles including Rosalind- As You Like It,  Celine- The American Parade, and Lydia- Christmas at Pemberley. She is excited for the community to see this show! 

Laura Torres (she/her) (Elizabeth Panelli) is exited to return for another season at Flashback Theater. She has previously been in their productions of Miracle on 34th Street, Book of Will, and House of the Blue Leaves. She lives in Somerset with her husband and son. 

Seth Hart (Charles Humboldt) returns to the Flashback stage as Charles in Getting and Spending.  His previous FbTC performances include The Wickhams:  Christmas at Pemberly,  along with The Mousetrap, Uncle Vanya, Brother Wolf and The Book of Will.  His acting credits also include a wide range of plays at Good Neighbors Theatre in Byrdstown, TN, such as Radio Suspense Theatre, The Diviners, Arsenic and Old Lace, and more. Full time, Seth works for the University of Kentucky as a fine arts program assistant at the Wayne County Cooperative Extension Office.  He also enjoys his time as an independent artist, potter and sculptor.

Zachary Vaught (he/him) (Brother Thaddeus/Judge O’Keefe) is a local who was picked up by Flashback in their 2023-2024 season and has somehow appeared in a total of three plays with Flashback. He is just happy to accept any role that is offered to him and hopes to be lucky enough to continue with Flashback in the future. 

Joy Chaney (Mary Phillips) In 1998 Joy appeared in Law and Order SVU and Taking Chance, an HBO film. Some theater repertoire includes the Paramus NJ Highschool Scholarship Musical, Marinated Steak and Socks at Cumberland College. She is pleased to have been affiliated with Flashback since 2023 beginning with The Thin Place  production and their Annual Season Announcement Cabaret. 2024 found her in two plays for KCTS’s  2nd Annual 10 Minute Short Play Festival. 2025 found her in Flashbacks’s Season Announcement Cabaret and KCTS’s Theater Festival.

Traci Bray (Costume Designer) uses her extensive knowledge of fiber arts and fabric construction to help tell the story; expressing what she sees and feels to the audience through costumes.  A first responder and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; she enjoys being able to experience life from all different angles and hopes that complexity is celebrated in her art. www.questingthreads.com

Sommer Schoch (Director) is the founder and Producing Artistic Director of FbTC. In a decade of Flashback history: she has directed numerous productions; overseen the development of programming that drives artists to develop their skills and talents through masterclasses, workshops, and new play development; and established connections to a community that values experiencing art in our world. Before FbTC, Sommer graduated from Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music with dual Master’s degrees in Arts Administration and Business Administration.

Season ticket holders will be contacted in six weeks before each show’s opening date to confirm their desired dates of attendance.
