Individual audition appointments are available Tuesday, September 6th and Thursday, September 8th. If no available time works for you, please call or email [email protected] to request an alternate time or, alternatively, you can plan to attend the walk-in auditions on Saturday, September 10.

Two sessions of walk-in auditions will be held on Saturday, September 10th. The morning session will have registration from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and the afternoon session will have registration from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Walk-in auditions will be assigned an approximate audition time when you arrive and socially distanced space will be available to warm up and wait until your audition time.

Callbacks will be held on Sunday, September 25th. Additional callbacks may be scheduled as necessary to accomodate special circumstances but that is solely at the discretion of the production team and it is most beneficial to the actor to be seen on the same day as other callbacks, so please plan accordingly.

Production Information

Each of the productions will primarily rehearse in the Black Box at Flashback Theater, but performance venues vary. The dates and confirmed details of each show are as follows.

Miracle on 34th Street

Adapted by Mountain Community Theater from the novel by Valentine Davies
Based upon the Twentieth Century Fox motion picture
Directed by Jade Ellis
Venue: The Virginia
By chance, Kris Kringle, an old man in a retirement home, gets a job working as Santa for Macy’s. Kris unleashes waves of good will with Macy’s customers and the commercial world of New York City by referring parents to other stores to find exactly the toy their child has asked for. Seen as deluded and dangerous by Macy’s vocational counselor, who plots to have Kris shanghaied to Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital, Kris ends up in a court competency hearing. Especially at stake is one little girl’s belief in Santa.

The Book of Will by Lauren Gunderson
February 16 – 26, 2023
Directed by Sommer Schoch
Venue: Black Box at Flashback Theater
Without William Shakespeare, we wouldn’t have literary masterpieces like Romeo and Juliet. But without Henry Condell and John Heminges, we would have lost half of Shakespeare’s plays forever! After the death of their friend and mentor, the two actors are determined to compile the First Folio and preserve the words that shaped their lives. They’ll just have to borrow, beg, and band together to get it done. Amidst the noise and color of Elizabethan London, The Book of Will finds an unforgettable true story of love, loss, and laughter, and sheds new light on a man you may think you know.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
May 11 – 21, 2023
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Book by Hugh Wheeler
Directed by Billy Christopher Maupin
Venue: To be announced
An infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett’s luck sharply shifts when Todd’s thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up… and the carnage has only just begun!

What to Prepare

You should prepare a 1-2 minute monologue that showcases your stage presence and acting range to be considered for Miracle on 34th Street and The Book of Will. To be considered for Sweeney Todd, prepare 32 bars of a song from the musical theater canon to best indicate your vocal strengths. You will need to provide any required accompaniment for your audition – a track is acceptable and a bluetooth speaker will be available.

Please bring a headshot and acting resume if available. You will fill out a contact form and conflict sheet at your audition time. Email is our primary way of contacting actors for call backs, so please be sure you provide an email that you check regularly.

You should prepare a list of past theater experience, if you have any. If not, think about the skills and experience you have that would translate well to backstage and production. This can be communication skills, design or construction experience, etc. If you have any particular interest in learning a new skill or working on a specific show or project, be prepared to discuss that as well.

New to Flashback Theater?

By auditioning or interviewing for the entire season, you are indicating interest in being considered for opportunities throughout the entire upcoming year. You will be able to indicate on your audition form if you are unavailable for particular shows. The director of each show will be calling back individuals from this pool of talent for show specific opportunities based on your type, experience, and availability. For this reason, it is helpful if you bring a photo of yourself and a theater resume or list of previous theater experience for later reference.

Our artists are typically paid a stipend to offset the costs of attending rehearsals. We are a semi-professional company, and we operate in a professional atmosphere. Our artists are treated with respect and we expect you to return that respect by showing up on time to all rehearsals and performances, and collaborating in a positive manner. Your audition or interview is the first opportunity to show your respect for the theater process and thus your ability to work well with us; so arrive early, be prepared, and always say “Thank you!”
