A minor character with a major role in the Christian story takes the lead in this all-new original musical. With book, music and lyrics by Amber Frangos and music and lyrics by Maria McNeil Phelps, Mary’s very human story reveals the conflicts we all face when we question faith, love, and sacrifice. This world premiere will be the 3rd premiere presented by Flashback Theater during its 8 year history, and follows three years of dedicated workshop development and support for the creators.

Told in a nonlinear format, Mary: Her Story reveals Mary’s life as those around her discover that she is carrying the Messiah. From miscommunications and accusations to being forsaken, Mary and Joseph must do what they can to protect the life of Mary’s unborn son while keeping themselves out of trouble. Meanwhile, an older Mary and adult Jesus discuss how Mary’s influence affected the ministry of the Messiah in later years.

Mary: Her Story is the human side of the story that has never been told before, and I felt it was time,” said Frangos. “It’s a story we can all relate to: Mary was human, she wasn’t a celestial being. I want audiences to understand the humanity behind the story we all know. And the inhumanity Mary and Jesus might have faced in the world they were living in. It’s the story told between the scriptures.”

For director and playwright, Amber Frangos, Mary: Her Story is a lifetime affair. The concept came to her nearly 40 years ago, but the time was never right, until now. The stars have aligned and rehearsals are underway as the world premiere of this beautiful story is just under a month from opening night.

The show has musical influences from several styles and eras, and features fun group numbers as well as heart-touching ballads. Audiences can expect a range of emotions during the experience, from reverence to compassion and even humor. With limited seating available, audiences will want to reserve their tickets as soon as possible to ensure they don’t miss this world premiere event.
