The Let’s Play! Company at Flashback Theater will hold its annual Playwright’s Choice Second Saturday event on March 14th, 2020 at 7 p.m. At this event, local playwrights will have a chance to share snippets of their work with community members and actors. Participants and audience members of all ages and experience levels are invited. The event is free to attend, but donations are welcome.

Each month, the Let’s Play! Company encourages people from all walks of life to assemble and play improv games. However, the Company shines the spotlight on local playwrights once a year with its Playwright’s Choice workshop. Local playwrights can submit scenes from their work to Flashback, and their scenes will have the chance to be on display for both actors and audience members. Their scenes will receive constructive feedback from actors, audience members, and scene directors. Along with feedback, playwrights will be able to see local actors perform their work, as well as watching direction for each scene.

Those who have attended Playwright’s Choice before may remember the process; however, newcomers to the Second Saturday workshops will have no pressure. Playwrights who are interested in participating should bring copies of the script for each character. Two extra copies should be on hand for the director and playwright. The Let’s Play! Company encourages participants and audience members of all ages to participate.

Playwright’s Choice is an excellent opportunity to learn more about what the rehearsal process looks like along with how playwrights use feedback to their advantage. The most important aspect of Playwright’s Choice is teamwork. Just like a production with a full length script, the rehearsal and workshopping process requires collaboration with actors, playwrights, directors, and audience members. Actors and directors can get experience with their craft, audience members will obtain knowledge about theater and the rehearsal process, and playwrights will take one step closer to getting their play ready for production.

Audience members who attend the Second Saturday workshops may recognize, and even get to know, some of Flashback’s performers. FbTC takes pride in developing local talent; Our actors are active members of the community who love welcoming new faces to the group. FbTC encourages audience members to come and learn about performing arts by watching or, if they’re inclined to do so, participate. Everyone is welcome in the theater!

Second Saturday workshops are events where the main goal is to have fun and to learn about theater. At Playwright’s Choice, valuable information about theater and workshopping is accessible to all parties involved, along with a feeling of enjoyment. Directors and actors will gain experience with pursuing their craft in a rehearsal space, audience members will relax and enjoy watching theater, and playwrights will be enlightened by watching their work come to life. At the end of the night, the most important takeaway is recreation and an interest to learn more about theater. The Let’s Play! Company and Flashback Theater encourages members of the community to attend Second Saturday workshops all year long.
